Style

Joanne's style is natural and all about capturing you, just being YOU! Our session can be as formal or casual as you like, but the ultimate goal is to capture the natural looks of your children and family. Before the session we will go over your goals and ideas to obtain an understanding of what you would like to do. Maybe you have seen something that you liked and desire to recreate or maybe you have a unique idea that is all your own. The main idea is to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere with no pressure on anyone, so that we can see great expressions and the dynamic of your family.

Parents should be open to being silly and having fun with the kids. You will most likely see Joanne barefoot and crawling around on the ground trying to get the kids to be open to just having fun and showing their natural smiles. Rather than telling you how to pose, she will most likely say "just go PLAY!" We want you to enjoy each other and just have fun! She will coach you along the way as to what looks good, but often the best images are created when you forget that she's there and just play and have fun together. We will take our time and can stop for breaks and snacks as you need. We don't ever want anyone to feel stressed about the photo session and we do our best to avoid pressure. Feel free to bring your kid's favorite books, music or stuffed animals to help us create a fun and comfortable atmosphere.

Investment

A session with Island Style Images is an investment in high quality, fun & beautiful images that you will love! Sessions start at $95 in the studio or $165 for an outdoor garden, park or morning beach session. Sunset Beach sessions are $275 at one of our North Shore Beaches. We are happy to go to any location you would like and suggest that the session should take place somewhere that either has a special meaning to you or maybe a look that you like.

Your images are all professionally edited to look their best, and the products are all custom designed. A few days after the session we will have you come back to our studio to see all that we created and select a package that fits your needs and desires. We have print packages that start at $355 and we offer a wide range of both packages and products. We can create custom wall art, collages, storybooks and even photo jewelry!! All prints will be retouched individually and professionally printed on the highest quality archival paper and mounted on artists board.

If you're interested in booking a session just give us a call so we can discuss what you would like to do and give you some of our suggestions! We will need to collect all of your information as well as a $350 deposit that will be applied towards your order..

Booking your session

We are typically booked several weeks in advance, so keep that in mind when you are planning a session. We sometimes have openings sooner than that, but planning ahead helps!

If you are pregnant and want to do a hapai session, we recommend scheduling it between your 32nd and 36th week. If you want to do a newborn session, please schedule in advance with a tentative date so that we have you on our calendar. We recommend for newborn portraits to be done within the first two weeks of life.

Holiday portraits and cards are a great way to update your family's images. We start booking these sessions in August and continue through November. This is without a doubt our busiest time of year, so clients are encouraged to schedule with us as far ahead as possible.

Your session can and should take place where you feel the most comfortable. Depending on the type of images you desire, we can come to your home, go to a park or other outdoor locations, or maybe the beach would be the best place for your family. We also, of course, have a custom studio if you prefer that. I recommend a location where your children can have fun and easily express themselves. For outdoor locations, we typically schedule the sessions in the morning or late afternoon when the light is best. Cloudy days make for beautiful images as the light is nice and soft. If you schedule an outdoor session and it turns out to be a cloudy day, that can actually be a good thing! If the weather does get bad with rain and such, we will reschedule your session for a better day. We do ask that on the day of your session that only the people scheduled to be photograph to attend in order to avoid distractions and cramped spaces. We also have a strict policy of not permitting clients to bring other cameras, either video or still, to our sessions. Thank you for your understanding on that.

What to wear

What you wear to your session is a critical part of creating wonderful images. For every one being photographed, we recommend simple, comfortable clothing that fits well and for everyone's outfits to coordinate while not looking too matchy-matchy! You don't want the outfits to look like uniforms. Most families don't go around wearing all matching clothing everyday, so wear something that shows the style and personality of each person yet coordinates with everyone in the group. When you book your session we will send you more ideas and even some examples on this important subject!

After the Session

Your images will be presented to you approximately one week after your session during a private presentation/viewing appointment in our studio, or we can also arrange an in-home presentation for you if that is more convenient. During this appointment we will go through the images with you to help you select your favorites. From there we will show you some of our custom designed wall pieces as well as other options with collages and storybooks. We have a variety of times available including weekends for your image presentation. At this appointment you will place your order and therefore should have all decision makers in attendance.

To prevent clogs and backups in our workflow, all unordered images from sessions 30 days past your presentation appointment will be purged. Ordered images will remain on file for a year should you have a need to re-order additional portraits.

Policies

All images are copyrighted by photographer Joanne Barratt. It is illegal and a federal violation to scan, copy, reproduce, upload or download any of Joanne's work without prior expressed written consent. Images that are purchased as jpeg files will have an accompanying usage release, that permits you to copy, upload and share images as you like on a personal basis. Commercial uses of any images will require additional permission.

Thank you for respecting Joanne's work and livelihood by choosing to not copy her work.

Our normal studio hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm. Saturday hours are by appointment only and we are closed on Sunday and all major holidays.

To book a session we require a deposit that can be paid over the phone with a Visa or MasterCard. This deposit will be deducted from your final total during the ordering session. All work is custom and therefore we request full payment at the presentation appointment. Typical print orders take approximately 3 weeks for delivery. Products that require design work such as cards, collages or books will require additional time. We are happy to show you proofs of these items as we go through the design process and allow you to make up to three minor changes after the initial designs are presented to you. Any additional or major changes will require a $75 design fee.

If your child is feeling under the weather, please call to reschedule. We understand that this happens. If you must cancel your appointment please try to do so at least 48 hours in advance.

Island Style Images accepts cash, checks, VISA or MasterCard. Checks returned by the bank will incur a $35 service charge and all orders will be cancelled of not paid in full within three days of notification.
